Crocodilians

Crocodiles, alligators, caimans, and gharials as a subject in their own right — biology and behavior, water and thermal systems, enclosure and barrier design, capture and restraint, facility protocols, and the field and conflict work nobody teaches formally.

The discipline

Crocodilians get their own discipline because nobody teaches them as one. Crocodiles, alligators, caimans, and gharials are kept at zoos, farms, sanctuaries, and private facilities all over the world, and almost everything the people running those places know was learned on the job. This discipline covers crocodilian biology and behavior, species identification, water quality and filtration, thermal and basking design, enclosure and barrier construction, feeding and growth, safe capture and restraint, tape and rope technique, transport, facility design, staff safety and protocols, breeding and incubation, human-crocodile conflict, relocation, and field research. The goal is to put on paper what has only ever passed from one handler to the next, so the next keeper starts with the knowledge and not the scars.

Where it leads

Every discipline feeds the certification path — formal, earned credentials produced with the faculty and always bought separately, never bundled into a membership. Certification courses begin releasing in Q4 2026.
