The Federation of Vivarium Culebra.
Knowledge that stays locked in a handful of expert minds dies with them. The whole reason this institute exists is to spread it — to raise the floor of reptile care across the entire field, so the next keeper doesn’t have to relearn everything from scratch. Better education means better-kept animals, fewer needless deaths, and a hobby that earns the respect it deserves.
A nonprofit standards body developing the highest-grade facilities-care standard the field has — reptile-emphasized, but all facilities are eligible. Certified facilities sign onto a written care, biosecurity, and welfare standard and submit to peer review. The credential travels.
The Standard
A written, published facilities-care standard covering enclosures, biosecurity, animal welfare, staffing, emergency response, and continuing education. Built by working keepers, not bureaucrats.
Certification
Tiered facility certification — site visits, documentation, peer review. Renewable. Publicly listed. A real signal that a facility has done the work.
The Network
Certified facilities share SOPs, training, and emergency response across the federation. One operator's hard-won protocol becomes the field's baseline.
When the field has a standard of its own, it stops borrowing one.
This work is forming now. Founding members help shape the standard.
