Cooling and Cycling: Triggering the Season
Many species won't breed without a seasonal signal. Brumation and cycling are how you send it — safely.

For temperate species especially, reproduction is keyed to the seasons. Cooling, brumation, and photoperiod shifts tell the animal that spring — and breeding — is coming. Done carelessly, the same process can harm the animal.
