How big is too big? The old 'widest part of the body' rule, with the nuance it's usually missing.

The classic guideline — prey roughly as wide as the widest part of the snake — gets you 90% of the way there. The other 10% is where keepers go wrong, either stalling growth or power-feeding toward obesity.
